This list should do a good job of doing that work for you. The list itself is derived from apps that have made the most popular free download list over the past several quarters. The majority, if not all, of the key apps in the category should be covered.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>APP QUALITY ASSESSMENT<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Quality<\/strong>: \u00a0Denotes the overall quality of the weather app. \u00a0\u00a0If you were to use the app, is your overall impression that this is a solid, useful, well-done app? \u00a0This is holistic and subjective.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Design Quality<\/strong>: \u00a0Asks whether the design looks put together or not. \u00a0Breaks out into three broad categories:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 1rem; line-height: 1.714285714;\">Excellent: \u00a0Beautiful, artistic, and exceptional design across app.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 1rem; line-height: 1.714285714;\">Good: \u00a0Professional and pleasant; the design is not distracting<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 1rem; line-height: 1.714285714;\">Average: Does the job, some obvious low-fi design<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Poor: Design is enough a turn-off to consider alternatives<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>UX Quality<\/strong>: \u00a0Looks at how easy it is to find features, move within app, interact with the app. \u00a0Four categories:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Excellent: \u00a0Some truly novel interaction efforts among weather apps<\/li>\n<li>Good: \u00a0Easy to move around app<\/li>\n<li>Average: OK, sections are hard to use because of navigational placement<\/li>\n<li>Poor: Difficult or annoying to find features<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Speed Quality<\/strong>: \u00a0Considers how quick the app calls weather information to make the app useful. \u00a0Three categories:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Fast: \u00a0No noticeable loading of data<\/li>\n<li>Delays: \u00a0App may hang while data is loading; manageable as a user<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">Painful: Incredibly long wait times; app crashes<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Data Quality<\/strong>: \u00a0Asks whether the weather information being offered to user is useful or not. \u00a0Four categories:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Excellent: \u00a0Unusually unique or creative offering within weather apps<\/li>\n<li>Differentiated: \u00a0A unique angle or data source<\/li>\n<li>Average: Nothing all that different from most weather apps; shows temperature for example<\/li>\n<li>Little Value: \u00a0Not sure why someone would get much out of the app<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>CUSTOMER FRIENDLINESS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Quality<\/strong>: \u00a0Same metric from Quality Assessment.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Privacy, TOS, Help FAQ, User Feedback<\/strong>: \u00a0There as all Yes \/ No values. \u00a0TOS stands for &#8220;Terms of Service&#8221;. \u00a0For each of these features, it&#8217;s preferred that these documents are built in natively into the application. \u00a0Some exceptions are made to qualify the feature as a &#8220;Yes&#8221; if the integration is\u00a0seamless.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">FEATURE ANALYSIS\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Quality<\/strong>: \u00a0Same metric from Quality Assessment.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Video Forecast, Local News, Login Ability, Save Favorites, Webcam, Push Notification<\/strong>: \u00a0There as all Yes \/ No values. \u00a0Video forecasts are full videos as opposed to Webcams which are often stationary weather cams. \u00a0Local news should have some element of weather coverage included.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Breakdown was never meant to be a full scale directory of apps, rather, it&#8217;s every app that I&#8217;ve reviewed by hand I order to get a comprehensive look and assessment into each app. If you&#8217;re building an app in a category you&#8217;re probably going to track at most a couple.
